28/04/14 - Thank you for supporting us at the final CDS in our current indoor series, and the Spring 2014 Champion of Champions Event yesterday!  We couldn't do any of it without the support of you all and your wonderful dogs.  You all raised £860 in total yesterday - which is a fantastic sum of money!  This means that Molly's fund will benefit by £88, and The Society of Unwanted Puppies (PUPS) and Daventry Community Centre will each receive £386.  I'm sure that all three causes will be amazed at the amount raised!  Thank you all for supporting Heart of England Dog Shows, we hope you all enjoyed yourselves!  The pictures of the CDS are here, and of the Champions Event here.

26/04/14 - Our Champion of Champions Event is tomorrow, - fantastic rosettes and trophies to be won.  And, we have a CDS beforehand - last chance to qualify.  We hope to see lots of our supporters at this event.

25/04/14 - Just a couple of days until our Champion of Champions event at Daventry Community Centre, on Sunday, 27th April, 2014.  The second trophy arrived today, and, here are pictures of both trophies (sponsored by Daventry Community Association and me and Brian) and the amazing rosettes (sponsored by and created by Grand Rosettes) that will be awarded to our two Champion of Champions at Sunday's event.  There is one chance left to qualify - we have a Companion Dog Show preceding the Champions Event at Daventry Community Centre on Sunday, 27th April, 2014.  We hope to see lots of you there!

We will be awarding an EXTRA Golden Envelope containing an invitation to our Champion of Champions Event in each qualifying class - this means there will be 9 more chances to participate in the Champion of Champions Event that follows on, at the same venue, immediately after the CDS.

In summary, we will be awarding Reserve to Reserve Best in Show in both the Pedigree & Novelty sections; Reserve Best Puppy in Show in the Pedigree section; and, the second place winners in Movement, Rescue, Crossbreed, Fancy Dress, Cutest Puppy & Veteran, in the Novelty section, will all receive a Golden Envelope, containing an invitation to the Champs Event which follows on immediately after the CDS on Sunday 27th April, 2014.

Please note that the identity of the judge for the Champs event will be revealed on the day - and is NOT the judge for our CDS on the same day!

In summary - we will be awarding Reserve to Reserve Best in Show in both the Pedigree & Novelty sections; Reserve Best Puppy in Show in the Pedigree section; and, the 2nd place winners in Cutest Puppy, Veteran, Movement, Crossbreed, Rescue & Fancy Dress will also receive a golden envelope containing an invitation to the Champs Event!

21/04/14 - A very big thank you to the sponsors of our forthcoming CDS at Daventry Community Centre, on 27th April 2014. And also, to all of the sponsors of the shows in the series - we couldn't raise as much for our charities without your support.

On this occasion, we'd like to say a special thank you to Marie & Bill Botten, who have been extremely generous throughout the series - and to Heart of England Dog Shows overall - at our CDS on 27th April, they are sponsoring all of the rosettes in the dog show. We'd also like to thank who have donated dog food prizes for the whole series, and are also sponsoring the rosettes which will be awarded at our Champions Event, which follows on after the CDS on 27th April. See below for a poster acknowledging our wonderful sponsors for 27th April 2014.

19/04/14 - Just over one week to go, until our next indoor Companion Dog Show (CDS), on Sunday, 27th April 2014, at Daventry Community Centre - this one is British Weather themed, so get your thinking hats on for the Fancy Dress Class!  Following on from the CDS will be our Champion of Champions Event, with gorgeous rosettes sponsored by and created by Justina Bendelow & Mark Evans of Grand Rosettes.  All Championship qualifying classes are included at our CDS on 27th April - see here for a list of who has qualified already, and a bit more information about the initiative.  Below is a picture of some of the Championship rosettes that will be available for our qualifiers to win.  And, there will be a trophy for each of our two Champion of Champions!

18/04/14 - Pawprints Dog Rescue is a brilliant charity that Brian & I support in every way we can.  They are putting on a dog show next Saturday, 26th April 2014 - Pawprints events are very enjoyable, please support Anita & co at this event.  See below for details of the event, and a list of classes in the dog show!

16/04/14 - Not long until the final chance to qualify for our Champion of Champions Event - see here for a schedule for the Champs Event, here for who has qualified so far, and here for a schedule for the CDS at Daventry on 27th April 2014 - this is the VERY LAST CHANCE to qualify for the Champion of Champions Event, which follows on immediately after the CDS on 27th April!

15/04/14 - Just under two weeks until our next indoor CDS at Daventry Community Centre, followed by the Champions Event.  Hoping to see lots of you there!

11/04/14 - We'd like to thank everybody who has sponsored our current series of indoor events -  your generosity means that we've been able to donate every penny raised at our shows to our nominated charities.  Here is a poster to acknowledge the sponsors of our forthcoming Companion Dog Show on 27th April 2014, at Daventry Community Centre.  Thank you all!

10/04/14 - Just over two weeks until the last Companion Dog Show in our current indoor series at Daventry Community Centre, Northamptonshire, NN11 0QE.  This is the last chance to qualify for the Champions Event which will follow immediate after the CDS on the same day.  Here is a poster!  And here is a link to the schedule for the CDS.

09/04/14 - Daventry Community Association have generously donated this beautiful trophy, which will be awarded to one of our two Champion of Champions on an annual basis, each Spring.  There will also be a small replica trophy for the winner to keep, which will be presented when the large trophy is returned to Heart of England Dog Shows ready for the next Champions Event.

We are very grateful to Daventry Community Association for this generous gesture - the trophy really is beautiful and superbly engraved.

Shortly, we hope to reveal a very different trophy, which will be awarded to our other Champion of Champions!

The first presentations will occur at our forthcoming Champions Event, which will follow the Companion Dog Show, at Daventry Community Centre, on Sunday, 27th April 2014.

07/04/14 - IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - We've decided to add in a few more novelty classes at our CDS on Sunday, 27th April 2014, at Daventry Community Centre, Ashby Road, Daventry, Northants NN11 0QE.

The Champs qualifying classes are all still on the schedule, but, we've also included a few of our more popular classes - this means there are more chances to get into that Best Novelty line-up and therefore qualify for the Champs Event which follows on immediately after the CDS.  The extra classes in the Novelty section of the CDS are - Handsome Dog, Pretty Bitch, Appealing Eyes, Steward's Choice and the Dog that hasn't won a 1st today!  Here is a revised schedule!

06/04/14 - It's just three weeks until our Champs event, on 27th April 2014, at Daventry Community Centre, Northamptonshire.  We have some fantastic rosettes, kindly sponsored by and created by Justina Bendelow & Mark Evans of Grand Rosettes, to be won.  Justina & Mark have done a fantastic job, as always,  please see below for a picture.   We have nine champs classes, and so eighteen fantastic rosettes are available for our qualifiers to win.

There are also four extra special rosettes, for our  pedigree & novelty champ of champs and their reserves, and, I hear, trophies are also on offer for the top winners.  The CDS which runs before the Champs event, on the same day (27th April) is your last chance to qualify.

We hope Justina & Mark decides to reinstate Heart of England Dog Shows on their website - we missed being there, have no idea why we were removed, and hope that these very special new rosettes will see our return.

Heart of England Dog Shows have decided to use Justina, Mark and Grand Rosettes for many of our forthcoming events - and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Justina & Mark to anybody who wants quality rosettes at the best price.

05/04/14 - It's the final Heart of England Dog Shows indoor show in the current set on 27th April 2014, and we're doing a fund raiser for our friend, Clorissa Paul's much loved girl Molly at the event.  I know how popular the Mrs Bridges hamper was a couple of shows ago, and so I've ordered another one and this will be the fund raiser prize. It's gorgeous, and for just £1 you can help Molly and be in with a shot of winning the hamper.

April Show Day will consist of a CDS and then the Champs event - the CDS on 27th April is your last chance to win a golden envelope and quality for the Champs event which will follow on after the CDS on 27th April 2014.  Here is a schedule for the CDS, a schedule for the Champs event, and a link the page which details everybody who has qualified so far.  Here is a picture of the hamper & Molly.

04/04/14 - I'm delighted to be able to announce that the details of the Fun Dog Show, on 28th September 2014, have been confirmed, and I'm now able to publish the schedule!  It should be a really good day!

The location is brilliant - Priors Marston Sport Club in Warwickshire, CV47 7RP.  Thank you to Bill Botten for agreeing to judge the event.

It seems that PINK is a very popular theme for the show - we look forward to seeing all of your innovative fancy dress entries!!!

26/03/14 - We have a new dog show to announce!  Becci Lane-Johnson has invited Heart of England Dog Shows (HOEDS) to organise a Fun Dog Show (FDS) as part of the Fun Day, which is currently slated to occur on Sunday, 28th September 2014.  Location to be confirmed, but likely to be a few minutes away from Daventry.

The Fun Dog Show will be a pay-in-the-ring event, £1.50 per entry.  There will be 24 fun classes, and lots of other activities and stalls.  Proceeds from the dog show will be for a very worthy cause and so we've chosen 'Pink' as a theme for the show - get your thinking hats on for the Fancy Dress Class!!

We are still gathering sponsors, but are delighted to thank Marie & Bill Botten for their kind sponsorship of trophies for Best in Show & Reserve Best in Show!

I will post more details as soon as they become available!

24/03/14 - An update on Sasha: Bill & Marie thank you all from the bottom of their hearts for your support and healing wishes for Sasha.  Sasha has commenced her chemotherapy, and is responding well.  She is on daily meds and will have more chemo in a few weeks time.  Brian & I also thank you all for your kindness and thoughtfulness. Please continue to send healing wishes to Sasha.  Thank you all. xxx

24/03/14 - How about this for a competition?  Nice prize for the winner (and their owners!).

How would you like to win a years supply of Lean & Tasty Dog Food, plus £1,000 in holiday vouchers?  Butcher's Lean & Tasty is looking for Britain's Fittest Dog!  To enter all you have to do is send Butcher's a picture of your dog, this could be an action shot or a close up, and tell Butcher's what makes your canine companion 'as fit as a Butcher's dog'.  For more information click on the picture below!

20/03/14 - Friends.  Marie & Bill have done so much for Heart of England Dog Shows, and us, and are huge participants in the Fun and Companion Dog Show scene in our area.  Their lovely West Highland White Terrier, Sasha, whom lots of us know very well, is very ill and is currently being treated with chemotherapy.  Sasha is such a people-friendly dog - an absolute sweetheart.

We know Sasha will receive the very best care possible, Marie & Bill will make sure of that - but will help so much if we all send our very best wishes for Sasha's well being and recovery.

Can we all please pull together to send Sasha, Marie & Bill our very best hugs, thoughts and wishes. It means so very much.  Thank you. xxx

20/03/14 - I'm delighted to announce a new judge for Heart of England Dog Shows.  Amanda Sutton will be judging the pedigree classes at our CDS at Priors Marston, Warwickshire, on 10th August 2014!

19/03/14 - Here are a couple of pictures to show how the puppies have grown.  Bliss & Beau still like to nap in their crate - picture taken today, they are just over six months old.  In picture two, it's the SAME SIZED CRATE, containing six puppies aged six weeks!  Haven't they grown!  In the second picture, Bliss & Beau are the first two dogs (left to right).

16/03/14 - Bliss, aka Sunbeau Starry Starry Night, went to her very first show today - the Wellingborough Dog Welfare Companion Dog Show, at Burton Latimer.  At six months and one week old, she showed her socks off - winning AV Minor Puppy and going onto take Best Puppy in Show.   We had a thoroughly great time at the event - it was good to be back in the ring again after a six month hiatus, and fantastic to catch up with so many friends.  Here are a few photos of Bliss with her fantastic rosette & prize!

Also really nice to catch up with Sandra, Jackie & Derek, Penny & Mo, Di and lots of others.

Nice to see Racheal - well done on your BOB on Thursday - and yes we will see you in the summer!

Great afternoon!

08/03/14 - I promised a few more pictures of the gorgeous sash & trophy Bill & Marie Botten arranged for Brian & I to be presented with at our show last Sunday, 2nd March 2014.  Here they are.  Beautiful!!

03/03/14 - Well yesterday's dog show at Daventry Community Centre was a fantastic event!  The dog show, photo competition, name the dog and raffle raised a total of £820, which means that our charities, Daventry Community Centre and Leafy Shade Rescue, will each receive £410.  Our fundraiser, originally for Sassi, Simon and Lou's 2 year old Finnish Lapphund, raised £75.  The really good news is that Sassi is now much better, and Simon & Lou kindly donated the funds raised to Molly, who needs treatment to help her beat cancer.  This means that the total raised at the dog show was £895.  This is a fantastic amount and we'd like to thank everybody who supported us yesterday.  We couldn't do any of it without you all.  The photos are here.

Brian & I had a wonderful surprise yesterday.  Our good friends, Marie & Bill Botten, who are tremendous supporters of Heart of England Dog Shows, had arranged for Brian & I to be presented with a fantastic trophy by the Deputy Mayor of Daventry, Ron Fox, also a gorgeous red, white and blue sash, and an amazing and delicious cake - complete with a picture of me and Brian, together with our pointers Paddy & Holly; all to mark what we've achieved through Heart of England Dog Shows in 2013/14.  To be awarded 'Best Dog Show Organisers 2013/14' was an overwhelming yet brilliant experience, which we will always treasure.  Thank you Marie & Bill for thinking of us - your planning and thoughtfulness was second to none as usual!  Marie & Bill had even thought to supply extra cake for everybody to enjoy!

It was a totally amazing experience - and made our day complete!  I will post some more photos, but here are a few for now!

01/03/14 - It's St David's Day!  And our next Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre is TOMORROW, on 2nd March 2014!  Here is a new picture of the fantastic raffle sponsored and hosted by Marie & Bill Botten which will feature at tomorrow's event!

26/02/13 - Just a few days now until our next Companion Dog Show, at Daventry Community Centre, on Sunday, 2nd March 2014.  This show is spring-themed.  Daffodils, catkins and pussy willow!  Here is a picture:

22/02/14 - Just over a week until our next CDS at Daventry Community Centre, on 2nd March 2014.  We have a lot going on - 4 pedigree and 18 novelty classes in the dog show; an 8 class photo competition to enter on the day; a superb raffle; a name the toy dog competition; and a chance to win a huge Thornton's Chocolate Easter Egg, and help Sassi, a 2 year old Finnish Lapphund who needs life long medical care to control a serious blood condition.  Here is a picture of the schedule:

21/02/14 - Marie & Bill Botten are very kindly sponsoring and hosting the raffle at our next Companion Dog Show, at Daventry Community Centre, on Sunday, 2nd March 2014.  They just sent me this amazing picture of the prizes - they have generously decided to make it another extra special raffle - with gorgeous prizes - including sumptious hampers and amazing collectors' teddy bears - it all looks fantastic and Marie has dressed each of the hamper baskets with yellow satin ribbons, to match the Spring theme of our show.  I can't wait!

16/02/14 - Two weeks until our next Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre, on Sunday, 2nd March 2014.  Bill & Marie Botten are very generously sponsoring and hosting the raffle, and are also donating gorgeous trophies for our Pedigree Best in Show, Reserve Best in Show & Best Puppy in Show, and also our Novelty Best in Show & Reserve Best in Show.  Here is a picture of one of the trophies, with a background of Spring flowers in today's lovely sunshine!

15/02/14 - Just over two weeks until our next indoor Companion Dog Show, at Daventry Community Centre, Ashby Road, Daventry NN11 0QE, on Sunday 2nd March, 2014.  The special fundraiser at this event will be for Sassi, who is a two year old Finnish Lapphund who has a blood condition that requires life long care.  This is expensive, and we would like to help raise funds to help with her treatment.

And so, we will be asking for you all for £1 'a go' to help Sassi, and be in with a chance of winning this stunning Thornton's Continental Chocolate Easter Egg, complete with a box of 18 Thornton's Continental Chocolates.  It looks very tasty indeed!  Here are pictures of the chocolate prize and Sassi!

Here is a picture to get us thinking about the flowers and brighter days!

09/02/14 - The show I mentioned a few weeks ago that we'd been asked to organise is the CDS at the Ashby Show in Leicestershire.  We are hugely honoured and this is a massive coup for Heart of England Dog Shows as the Ashby Show is a very prestigious event, with 2014 marking its 100th anniversary.  I'm delighted to be able to announce that Bill Botten has agreed to officiate at the CDS, and here is a schedule.

08/02/14 - I've just posted schedules for four of our summer shows - two are Scruffts events.  Details may change but I wanted to get it all 'out there' sooner rather than later.  Welcome back judges Mike Mullan, Clorissa Paul & Karen Anderson, and welcome to our new judges Mikki Dewis, Marie Hamlin & Karen Woodage.  We're trying to mix it up a bit - hope you like it!

03/02/14 - I've just posted a schedule for the first of our Summer 2014 events - Newlands House Fun Dog Show, Netherseal, Derbyshire, on Saturday, 7th June 2014.  This is the fourth year we've organised this event, and it's a fantastic show - it's in conjunction with a fete, and there are lots of things going on.  And, we welcome a new judge to Heart of England Dog Shows - thank you Angela Russell for agreeing to judge our show!

27/01/14 - We had another lovely surprise at yesterday's show.  Sue Allen had made this bag, complete with a montage of fantastic Beau & Bliss photos, as a present for me and Brian.  Pointer Puppy Perfection indeed!

27/01/14 - The trophy and bouquet look even more spectacular today - here is a photo!

27/01/14 - Thank you all for supporting us yesterday at our Panto-themed CDS at Daventry Community Centre.  With one hundred dogs entered, the dog show, photo competition, raffle, name the toy dog and Molly's prize draw all raised a grand total of £943.  This means that Wellidogs and Daventry Community Centre will each receive £410, and Molly's fund £123.  Thank you all for being so generous!

The photos are here.

Brian & I had a lovely surprise yesterday, when we were presented with a gorgeous trophy and bouquet of flowers as we were awarded 'The People's CDS Organisers of the year 2013/14'.  We'd like to thank all of our friends who were involved in this fantastic gesture - it was completely unexpected and we were extremely touched and quite overwhelmed.  In particular, thank you to Mary, Jackie & Kitty - you are all very special - Sue & Brian xxx

15/01/13 - The theme of our next show, at Daventry Community Centre on Sunday, 26th January, 2014, is PANTO!  And I've been working hard to work out how to decorate the venue!  It's not been easy, but I'm getting there - here is a panto picture to help get us in the mood!  See here for a schedule!

18/12/13 - Well Marie has outdone herself this time with the very special Raffle Table for our Christmas Companion Dog Show on 29th December, at Daventry Community Centre.  Not only are there Mrs Bridges goodies to win, but also delectable items from St Kew, Cottage Delights and Duchy Originals.  Here is a picture, complete with gorgeous decorations.  Thank you Marie & Bill!

15/12/13 - Just been out to put a few of these posters up!  See here for more details!

14/12/13 - It's not long until Christmas, which means it's not long until our next indoor Companion Dog Show; it's on Sunday, 29th December, at Daventry Community Centre.

Bill & Marie Botten are great supporters of Heart of England Dog Shows, and are sponsoring two fantastic elements of our special Christmas Show:

Firstly, an extra special Mrs Bridges Raffle - with Mrs Bridges hampers and goodies - I can say from personal experience Mrs Bridges products are absolutely delicious.  Bill & Marie hosted and sponsored a similar initiative at our show in April 2013 - it was amazing.

Secondly, Bill & Marie are sponsoring trophies for Pedigree and Novelty Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show, and Pedigree Best Puppy in Show.

Thank you both for your generosity and support - we really appreciate it and here are a couple of pictures.  The first is of a similar trophy to those which will be awarded at our Christmas Show; and the second is a photo taken at our April Event - of the very special Mrs Bridges Raffle Table!

12/12/13 - Just over two weeks until our next indoor Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre.  Below is a schedule, and also a poster which details all of our lovely sponsors.  The shows wouldn't happen without the people and organistions who sponsor them - long gone are the days of me and Brian being able to fund most of what goes into these events, and so we, and our exhibitors, are forever endebted to those who have made this current series possible. If anybody wants to sponsor a class (Or two! It never hurts to ask!), please contact Brian on brian@heartofenglanddogshows.co.uk.

Thank you all.  I will be posting some more Christmassy photos soon, but here are the details of our next show!

11/12/13 - Sarah Morris has set up a Facebook Group called Dogs in Christmas Hats and asked me to try and get a photo of Bliss & Beau wearing Santa Hats.  Here is the best shot from the first photo shoot!  Bliss is a natural hat-wearer - it was an entirely different story with Beau!

07/12/13 - Bliss & Beau at 13 weeks old.  Double Trouble!

07/12/13 - I'm very pleased to be able to let everybody know that the roof at Daventry Community Centre has been fixed!  Thank you all for helping to make this possible.  Next - repairing the floor, which has suffered due to the leaking roof.  Looking forward to our next show at the Community Centre, on Sunday, 29th December 2013.  See here for a schedule!

04/12/13 - The photo of Sam in his first ever 'Catch the in Sausage' class came first in Best Action Shot and joint Best Overall Photo at our dog show on 24th November!  Here is a picture of Sam, with the winning photo, and his lovely rosettes!  Thank you Jackie & Roger for sending me the photo.

02/12/13 - Bliss & Beau are 12 weeks old.  They had a lovely day filled with adventures yesterday.  Here is a picture of them relaxing in front of the fire!

27/11/13 - Many thanks to everybody who has sponsored classes at our dog shows - we really appreciate it!  We still have a few classes at our December and March shows, and several at our January show, that haven't been sponsored as yet.  If anybody would like to sponsor a class, please e-mail Brian on brian@heartofenglanddogshows.co.uk.  It's £5 per class, and credit will be given in the poster that I prepare and publish before and at each event.  Thank you very much!

24/11/13 - The photos from today's show are here!

24/11/13 - We made £630 today!  Today, every penny spent at the dog show, name the dog, the photo competition and the raffle, goes to our charities - we rely on donations and sponsorship to cover all of our costs.  This means that Daventry Community Centre and the Protection of Unwanted Puppies Society will each be receiving a cheque for £315.  Once again, thank you all for supporting us today.  I will be posting the photos tomorrow all being well.

14/10/13 - Sunbeau Shining Star has a new home in Leicestershire, with a lovely family.  They came to see him yesterday afternoon and loved him at first sight.  So all our puppies have lovely new homes to go to, including two of them staying here with us!  Here is a picture of the puppies taken yesterday, whilst their main living area was being changed.

13/10/13 - Great Champion of Champions Event at Daventry Community Centre today - the pictures are here.  It was fantastic to see lots of old and new friends.  I will sort out a page dedicated to the event in the next few days.

28/09/13 - Pictures from today's Hounds of Hicks Fun Dog Show are on Facebook.

28/09/13 - Just got back from running and judging the Hounds of Hicks Fun Dog Show near Ashby de la Zouch, and what a fantastic event it was.  We raised £261, which was brilliant considering there were only 13 classes. The event was very well attended, there was a great atmosphere and the weather was absolutley superb for a dog show.

It was basically down to me to run things today - Brian dropped me off with basic equipment (including the PA and microphones thank goodness!), and then went home to look after Holly and the puppies.  He came back to collect me towards end of the show.   Brian drove for 4 hours today - thank you!

As I was judging as well as everything else, I'm very grateful to our lovely exhibitors for their patience, and also my steward Anne, who was co-oped into helping at the last minute and did a sterling job.

I will sort out the photos next - they will be posted on Facebook either later on this evening or tomorrow.

Thank you to Racheal, who decided that Heart of England Dog Shows should decide where £120 of the money raised should go.  We've decided on Pawprints Dog Rescue - Anita, a cheque will be with you in the next week or so.

25/09/13 - The puppies are two and a half weeks old now.  Their flecks are really coming through, they've grown loads and their black splodges are turning into lovely markings!  Here are a couple of pictures.

20/09/13 - Big day at work for me today, and it went really well!  Came home to a lovely welcome - pointer puppy pile!  They're all asleep and very beautiful!

I love my Mummy!

19/09/13 - Just over a week to go until our next event - the last show of the Summer 2013 Season - The Hounds of Hicks Fun Dog Show at Hicks Lodge National Forest Cycle Centre, Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire, LE65 2UP, on Saturday, 28th September 2013.

This is the final chance to win one of our golden envelopes (I have 8 to award at the show!), containing an invitation to our Champion of Champions Event, at Daventry Community Centre, on Sunday, 13th October 2013.

The theme for the Fancy Dress class is 'Winter Wonderland' - well there should be a lot of sled dogs at Hicks Lodge that weekend!  Hence the snowy touches in the photo below!

15/09/13 - Pictures from today's Fun Dog Show at Harpole, Northamptonshire, are here.

15/09/13 - Brian got home about an hour ago, and from what he said, and from the comments on our Facebook page so far, it sounds as if everybody enjoyed themselves at the Fun Dog Show at Harpole, Northamptonshire, today.

I'm absolutely delighted to be able to let you all know that we raised a total of £459 from the dog show and sponsorship donations.  The money will go to Harpole Charities and Community Projects.

I'll do the photos next, and they will be on Facebook either later on this evening or tomorrow.

A big thank you to all of our sponsors, and also to everybody who helped today - judge Simon, Danny & Lisa, Gerrie, and members of Harpole Bowls Club who stepped up when the mobile caterer couldn't make it.  I couldn't make it either, as I was on Holly & the Puppies duty today, but wish I could have been there - it sounds as if it was a very enjoyable afternoon!  Sue xxx

14/09/13 - Puppy Pics!

11/09/13 - Macro shot of puppies!

09/09/13 - We got Holly & the Pups a heat lamp.  Holly likes the pups in with her all the time now (supervised of course) - and in this picture she seems to have lined them up in size order!

08/09/13 - Holly has seven black & white pointer puppies!  Born today, five boys and two girls!  Here are a couple of pictures of Holly & the Pups!

07/09/13 - Our next event is on Sunday, 15th September - A Fun Dog Show in conjunction with Harpole Scarecrow Festival, Northamptonshire.

06/09/13 - Here are details of our very generous sponsors for the Fun dog Show at Harpole Scarecrow Festival on Sunday, 15th September 2013.  We would like to thank Bill & Marie Botten in particular, for sponsoring all of the class rosettes.  We have 26 classes and our judge Simon will be placing to fifth in every class, so that's a lot of rosettes!  Thanks Bill & Marie!

06/09/13 - All good things to come an end, and, Chris has decided to start running fun dog shows under her own banner (name to be decided as we understand it).  We would like to thank Chris and her colleagues for all that they've done for Heart of England Dog Shows, and we wish them the very best in the future.

Chris's inaugural event is a fun dog show at Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield, on Saturday, 14th September.  See this page for a schedule.  We hope it's successful and well attended, as after all, the main objective of all of our efforts is to raise money for charities and good causes.  Here is a picture of Chris which Brian took at Markfield, on 11th August 2013.  Good luck going forward!

05/09/13 - I have today completed (as far as I can at this stage) the schedules for the series of six Kennel Club licensed Companion Dog Shows which we are holding at Daventry Community Centre, Northamptonshire, between 3rd November 2013 and 27th April 2014.  See our Dog show dates and schedules page for details.

We are planning on including a Champion of Champions initiative (full details to follow), throughout the series, and so golden envelopes will be on awarded at all six events.

The format of the first five shows is the same: Four pedigree classes followed by an unbeaten dog rule BIS class (BIS, RBIS & BPIS); then eighteen novelty classes, followed by an all 1st place winners BIS class (BIS & RBIS).  The sixth show is shorter to allow time for the Champion of Champions event, but, all qualifying classes will be included, and the format is the same as the preceding shows.

All the events will be themed, but, fancy dress entrants do not have to follow the theme - they can if they want to, but it's not compulsory.

Winners of the following rosettes will qualify for the Champions event at all six shows:

Pedigree - BIS, RBIS & BPIS

Novelty - BIS, RBIS, Cutest Puppy (1st place), Veteran (1st place), Crossbreed (1st place), Rescue/rehomed (1st place), Movement (1st place) & Fancy Dress (1st place).

We have a total of 22 classes at shows 1 through 5, and 11 at show 6, and a photo competition at each.  I would be very grateful for any offers of sponsorship - it will be £5 to sponsor a class, and £20 to sponsor each photo competition.  Brian & I will sponsor all of the Best In classes (pedigree and novelty), and we are going to canvas local businesses in the Daventry area to try to persuade them to sponsor classes at the shows!

If you would like a stall at any of the events, please contact Brian.  The cost will be £5, and will be allocated as sponsorship for one of the classes at that show.  (Angela and Tracy - I have you down as sponsoring one class each at all the events as you have already block-booked your stalls.)

For each event, I will prepare and display a poster highlighting everybody who has sponsored the show in any way.

So, if anybody would like to sponsor one or more classes at the shows, please let me or Brian know - if you have a preference as to which show/class you'd like to sponsor, I will do my best to accommodate you!

Thank you!

04/09/13  - We are very pleased to be able to announce that Butcher's are generously sponsoring the beautiful rosettes which will be awarded at our Champion of Champions Event, at Daventry Community Centre on Sunday, 13th October; this is in addition to providing the the dog food prizes and treat bags.

Even more generously,in addition to donating the prizes and treat bags for our forthcoming Fun Dog Show which is in conjunction with Harpole Scarecrow Festival, Northamptonshire, on Sunday, 15th September, Butcher's are also doing the same at each of our six Kennel Club licensed Companion Dog Shows, which we will be running at Daventry Community Centre, between October 2013 and April 2014.  So, in addition to the six-packs of tasty tinned dog food that our Best In winners will take home, all 1st - 5th placed dogs will receive treat bags, containing the ever popular Butcher's Sausages, or,Tripe Bites, which, we are reliably informed by several of our exhibitors, make excellent training aids.

As a special present for Holly's forthcoming puppies, today, Butcher's presented Brian with 96 tins of their specially-formulated puppy food.  This was a lovely surprise and below is a photo of Holly with some of this very generous gift!

Thank you Butcher's for supporting Heart of England Dog Shows, and also thinking of us and Mummy-to-be Holly at this very special time!   Your generosity is very much appreciated!

04/09/13 - Danny & Lisa also gave Paddy & Holly gifts following the dog show at Weston Lawns Equitation, near Bedworth on Saturday, 31st August - these regal dog bowls!  Breakfast awaits!

01/09/13 - Our next show is our Fun Dog Show at Harpole Scarecrow Festival, Northamptonshire, on Sunday, 15th September 2013.  Looking forward to seeing lots of you there.

01/09/13 - Heart of England Dog Shows are no longer associated with the dog show at Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield, on 14th September 2014.

01/09/13 - Heart of England Dog Shows are very pleased to be able to announce the return of our popular indoor series of dog shows, at Daventry Community Centre, Northamptonshire.  This season, we are planning events on the following dates:

3rd November 2013

24th November 2013

29th December 2013

26th January 2014

2nd March 2014

27th April 2014

At all the events, which will occur on a Sunday afternoon, registrations will be taken from 11:30am, and judging will occur at 1:00pm.  There will be four pedigree classes, followed by a selection of novelties (trick will not be included).  Please note that access to the main hall will not be available until 12:30pm, as it is used by a martial arts class until 12:00 noon, and we will need time to set up the ring etc.

Catering will either be provided by members of the Daventry Community Centre committee, or, a mobile refreshments unit.  We also hope to be able to offer extra activities, including a photo competition, raffle and name the toy dog competition.

We are also planning on including a Champion of Champions initiative which will run through the six shows, culminating in a special event, which is likely to occur after the final show in the series on 27th April 2014 (to be confirmed)

More details and full schedules will be posted as soon as they are available.

All enquiries, including those from potential stall holders, should be directed to brian@heartofenglanddogshows.co.uk or phone 07577 463560.

31/08/13 - Great day today at Weston Lawns Equitation, near Bulkington, Warwickshire, where Brian judged the pedigrees and me the novelties at the dog show, which formed part of Exhall Agricultural Show.  Danny & Lisa did a fantastic job and had prepared so well.  Pictures will follow, but, I just had to post this - Danny & Lisa presented me and Brian with some lovely gifts for both us, and Paddy & Holly at the end of the event, but this cushion is a stand out for me - Paddy & Holly and the Heart of England colours in the form of a Union Jack flag - fantastic!

24/08/13 - How exciting is this?  Danny Cooper, who is the organiser of the Fun Dog Show at Exhall Agricultural Show, next Saturday, 31st August 2013, has asked that Heart of England Dog Shows provide our famous 'golden envelopes', containing invitations to our Champion of Champions final at Daventry Community Centre, Northamptonshire, to be held on Sunday, 13th October 2013.  We are, of course, absolutely delighted to be able to comply.  And so, there is an extra chance for you all to qualify for the Champions Event, in the classes that are included at Exhall.  Thank you Danny!

28/07/13 - Great Show today at Sheldon Country Park.  We had nearly 100 dogs entered, and, most importantly, the weather gods were very kind to us today - other than a couple of spots it was ideal dog show weather, sunny, but not too warm - fantastic!  Here are the pictures.

25/07/13 - Just a few days until our next event - our CDS at Sheldon Country Park on Sunday, 28th July 2013. At this show, our judge has 10 special rosettes to award, plus 10 accompanying invitations to our Champion of Champions event, at Daventry on 13th October 2013.

21/07/13 - Great show at Court Lane Allotments today. Here are the pictures.  But the hight spot today was a lost dog turning up at the show.  No tag, but we used our Halo scanner to check for a micropchip.  And there was one.  And, we were able to reuinite the lost dog with her owner within 20 minutes.  Happy Ending.

20/07/13 - Just packing things up for tomorrow's show at Court Lane Allotments, and I found a further £80 from last week's show at Great Linford ECO Festival at Milton Keynes - the notes were in a separate compartment in my secure belt!  I can hardly believe this, but this means that we raised a total of £443 for Pawprints Dog Rescue last week.  We will be sending them a cheque for the extra £80!

23/06/13 - Brian judged the pedigrees and some of the novelty classes at Priors Marston CDS today.  This was the first time this show has happened and it was a great success - over 80 dogs entered and a wonderful atmosphere.  I was back office, runner and ring steward today, and so didn't get a lot of chances to take photos, but it was a very relaxed event and I managed to get a few shots.  Thank you to Rebecca and partner, and also Simon for all of your help and assistance today.  We really enjoyed ourselves and hope everybody else did too!

11/06/13 - These are the special 'Best In' rosettes that will be awarded at our CDS at Great Linford Waterside Festival, Milton Keynes, on Sunday, 16th June. We also have eleven golden envelopes, containing invitations to our Champion of Champions Event in October, to accompany these lovely rosettes, created by Justina Bendelow at Grand Rosettes.

08/06/13 - Great show at Netherseal today - thank you to everybody who supported us and helped.  We raised £428 for Newlands House Leonard Cheshire Home.  Here are the photographs.  Looking forward to the next event - Great Linford Waterside Festival, next Sunday, 16th June 2013.

25/04/13 - Just two weeks until the first show on the Heart of England Dog Shows Summer 2013 Tour - a Fun Dog Show at Newlands House, Netherseal, Derbyshire DE12 8DA.  We are launching our Summer Champion of Champions initiative, and so this is the first chance to win a golden envelope, which will entitle qualifiers to enter our Summer Champion of Champions event, provisionally scheduled for 13th October 2013 at Daventry Community Centre.  We have 8 special rosettes (and golden envelopes) to award at Newlands.  Here is picture!

19/05/13 - Brilliant show today at Daventry - thank you to everybody who supported us.  I'm very pleased to be able to announce that we raised a total of £568 for Daventry Community Centre - they really need every penny they can get to fix the roof.  The pictures are here.

14/05/13 - We have a change of judge for Sunday's Show.  Sue Depper has an illness in her family and is now unable to judge our show.  We wish Sue and her family all the best and look forward to her judging our show at Hollowell later in the year.  Our judge on Sunday is now Simon Brown.  Thank you for stepping in at such short notice Simon!

23/04/13 - Here are two lovely pictures of Cindy, who won Best Novelty in Show at our CDS on Sunday, and then went onto be awarded Reserve Novelty Adult Champion!

22/04/13 - There were lots of high points at yesterday's Heart of England Dog Shows Champion of Champions Event at Daventry, but one for me was receiving a beautiful rosette in memory of my pointer Bosun.  Chris presented Brian & I with a very special rosette each during the event. The Bosun Rosette. Bosun was a very special pointer who brought us together in 2008 and went to Rainbow Bridge in February 2010, aged sixteen and a quarter. We often have a Noble Dog Class at our shows, and these are always in memory of Bosun. Keep calm and carry on would definitely have been Bosun's motto!!

22/04/13 - Fantastic day at our Companion Dog Show and very first Champion of Champions Event at Daventry Community Centre yesterday.  We raised a whopping £1062 for our charities and good causes.  Thank you and your lovely dogs so much for supporting us.  The pictures are on Facebook, details of who qualified at yesterday's show are here and I've updated our Champions Event page with pictures and details of our Champions and Reserve Champions!  Here is a picture of the fabulous rosettes, created by Justina Bendelow and Mark Evans at Grand Rosettes, and the fantastic trophies donated by our Sponsors

19/04/13 - Just a couple of days until our CDS, the very last chance to qualify for the current Champion of Champions event, which will follow after the CDS on Sunday.  The Champion of Champion event is by invitation only - you must have won one of the selected classes at the series of five shows we've put on at Daventry Community Centre between 30th December 2012 and Sunday - 21st April 2013.  If you've qualified you will be in possession of an invitation, which would have been contained in one of our famous 'Golden Envelopes', and you will be featured on our page dedicated to qualifiers.  This is the first time we've done anything like this, in fact I think it's the first time anybody has done anything like this - looking forward to Sunday!

12/04/13 - We've just got a new show!  We're organising a fun dog show in Leicestershire on Saturday, 28th September 2013 - in conjunction with Akna K9 Academy.  Here is a schedule!

07/04/13 - Just two weeks until our by invitation only Champion of Champions Event, which will follow the Superheroes themed Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre, on 21st April 2013.  Here is a picture of the Pedigree Champion of Champions and Reserve Champion of Champions trophies, kindly sponsored by Butcher's Pet Care, and the beautiful Champions Rosettes created by Justina Bendelow at Grand Rosettes.  Each trophy is about 30 centimetres (12 inches) tall, which also gives you an idea of the size of the lovely rosettes (there wasn't enough room for me to photograph the tails - they're very long!!).

06/04/13 - Paddy & Holly won't be competing at our Superheroes themed Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre on Sunday, 21st April 2013, but I thought I'd post a picture of them in their Super costumes!

05/04/13 - We've had several requests to do a show in May, and so we're delighted to be able to announce that there will be an indoor Fun Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre, Northants, on Sunday, 19th May 2013.  The schedule is here, there are 26 fun classes with rosettes to fifth place in each class and several specials; plus a photo competition, with rosettes to third place and a special rosette for the overall winner.  We need to raise money to fix the Community Centre's roof, so funds raised at the show will be for that.  Looking forward to seeing lots of you there!

29/03/13 - Heart of England Dog Shows have invested in a Halo Microchip Scanner so we can check that your dog's Microchip is still working and hasn't moved as they can 'travel'.  We used it for the first time at our show on 17th March, and identified one dog who's chip had stopped functioning.  The owners are now able to go back to their vets to get the problem sorted out.  If you would like your dog's chip checking, just ask Brian at the next show on 21st April at Daventry Community Centre.  Here is a link to Halo's Facebook page.

27/03/13 - THE WALCSS COMPANION DOG SHOW & GERMAN SHEPHERD RALLY AT PERRY HALL PLAYING FIELDS, BIRMINGHAM, ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY, 31ST MARCH 2013 - HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL 23RD JUNE 2013 BECAUSE OF THE CURRENT BAD WEATHER.

23/03/13 - The Kennel Club (KC) licenses and insurance certificates for our two Companion Dog Shows (CDS) in Milton Keynes - Great Linford Waterside Festival on 16th June 2013, and Great Linford ECO Festival on 14th July 2013 - arrived this morning! And we sent off for the Hellidon Village Fete KC CDS (22nd June 2013) license and insurance this week.  It won't be long until the outdoor shows start - our first one is at Netherseal in Derbyshire on 8th June 2013!

18/03/13 - Jake did really well yesterday, winning Best Crossbreed and also Best Rescue - and so has two golden envelops!  Here is a picture of him with his special rosettes.

18/03/13 - We've made a couple of changes to the schedule for our Champion of Champions Event on 21st April 2013 at Daventry Community Centre.  The most significant is that, in addition to a special rosette for the Champion in each of the nine individual categories, the judge(s) will also be selecting a Reserve Champion - this means that there are an extra nine special rosettes to be awarded.  The Pedigree and Novelty Champion of Champions & Reserve Champion of Champions criteria & awards remain unchanged.  The revised schedule is here.

18/03/13 - Here is a lovely picture of our Trick winner from yesterday's show - Lily!

18/03/13 - This is a picture of the lovely present that Jenny Cawood presented to me at yesterday's show. Jenny made this beautiful three-dimensional card for me - as a thank you for organising the shows, and to show that people are appreciative of the Heart of England Dog Shows team's efforts. It might say Sue on the card, but there are are several key people that make all of this work, so this beautiful tribute is for all of us. Thank you Jenny - you are a a star and your support is very much appreciated. Sue xxx

18/03/13 - The qualifiers from yesterday's show for our Champion of Champions Event on 21st April 2013, can be found here!

17/03/13 - Thank you to everybody who supported us at our show today.  Despite the severe and unexpected snow storms, which resulted in an unfortunate reduced entry, we still managed to raise £705, which means that our three nominated causes - Ruff Luck Rescue, Daventry Community Centre and the National GSD Club - will all receive £235.  We really enjoyed ourselves, and, from looking at the photos and comments on Facebook it seems that lots of you did too!  Our pictures are up - here.

10/03/13 - Just one week until our next Kennel Club-licensed Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre. Our special Heart of England Dog Shows rosettes will be available to buy at just £2.50 as a souvenir of the day. Here is a picture, together with some Spring flowers - I thought we could do with a touch of colour given today's snow!!

24/02/13 - Chris presented Brian & Sue with a lovely present at our CDS at Daventry on Sunday, 17th February 2013 - these gorgeous HEART SHAPED rosettes, featuring Paddy & Holly, created by Justina Bendelow at Grand Rosettes.

19/02/13 - Tricks & The Three Minute Rule

Following our decision not to offer a Trick class at future Heart of England Dog Shows (HOEDS) events for which there is not already a published schedule, I just wanted to let you all know that the three minute time limit will continue to be applied in all cases for our shows that do include a Trick class. I’m not going to list them out here – see http://www.heartofenglanddogshows.co.uk/dogshows.html for details. This includes the Champion of Champions Event on 21stApril 2013.

Sunday’s show was the first time we’d applied a time limit to Trick, and the ‘upset’ was triggered by pinpointing when, exactly, the three minutes actually start. The way it was set up on Sunday, it was really down to the exhibitor to determine this, which can obviously be open to debate. And so, I’ve decided to turn this around and introduce a rule which means it’s down to the judge to determine when the three minutes start – I think this is much fairer.

So, just to be crystal clear, at all our future shows (starting with the CDS at Daventry Community Centre on Sunday, 17th March 2013) the three minutes will start from the point at which the judge is standing in front of the exhibitor and their dog(s). This is absolutely non-negotiable – as soon as the judge is standing in front of the exhibitor, the clock starts ticking, and it will tick for three minutes only. The steward controlling the timing mechanism will clearly indicate when the clock starts ticking, and when the three minutes is up should this be necessary. There is no need to ‘fill’ the three minutes – this is the maximum amount of time an exhibitor may take. I hope this is clear, and I also hope that any ambiguity is removed. Going forward then, there shouldn’t be any ‘misunderstandings’ or ‘misinterpretations’.

I also realise that some exhibitors require ‘setting up’ time, and so, there will be a five minute period after the Trick class is announced (for the first time), during which exhibitors can do whatever they need to do to get ready. Once the five minutes is up, judging of the first exhibitor’s trick(s) will commence.

I will do my utmost to ensure all relevant exhibitors, judges and stewards are aware of the above.

Ironically, at Sunday’s CDS, there was an inadvertent delay well in excess of five minutes before judging of the Trick class commenced, so ample ‘setting up’ time was actually available. Also, those exhibitors who positioned themselves towards the end of the ‘line’ obviously accrued even more setting up time, while the preceding participants were judged. From my perspective, this makes the whole unfortunate episode even more difficult to understand.

The three minute time limit was introduced in response to several complaints we received regarding some participants taking a long time to complete their Trick(s). People were polite, but very vocal about this and we felt we had to do something. Brian, Chris & I had several discussions around limiting each participant to one trick rather than several, and also having a two minute time limit. In the end we decided that an upper limit of three minutes was fair. Late on Sunday evening, after much thought, I finally concluded that once you get to the point of having to deploy a stop watch in a class at a dog show, and are splitting hairs as to when the clock starts ticking, it really is time to call it a day with regard to that class.

I realise some observers find it enjoyable and interesting to watch Trick, but I have to say from an organiser’s perspective I’ve found it to be the most troublesome of classes to manage by far – for all sorts of reasons. We’re really glad that our plan to re-introduce ‘The Dog with the Waggiest Tail’ has met with such a positive response!

We’re planning on repeating the current Champions initiative across the summer shows, and, because I’ve already prepared and published several schedules and ordered special HOEDS rosettes, will include Trick in this initiative (though obviously not all HOEDS summer shows will include Trick). Provisionally, the final will be towards the end of September 2013. The details are still to be sorted out, and we’ll publish more information as and when it becomes available.

Should we decide to repeat the off-season shows/Champions initiative later in 2013 going into 2014, Trick will not be included, but we hope to offer the opportunity to become the ‘Champion Mover’, which we anticipate will be an attractive proposition (and yes – we will be playing that music!).

18/02/13 - A photo from Kathleen Tepperies, whose dog Brandy won Best Trick in Show yesterday.  Can you spot the Golden Envelop?

18/02/13 - We found some extra money in our float from yesterday's show, and have added it into the total raised - this is now £960, which means each of our three charities, Daventry Community Centre, PUPS & Leafy Shade Rescue, will each receive a cheque for £320.

18/02/13 - The qualifiers from yesterday's show for our Champion of Champions Event on 21st April 2013, can be found here!

17/02/13 - The pictures from today's show are here.  We'll add more as they become available.

17/02/13 - After a weird and unsettling incident following today’s show, we, at Heart of England Dog Shows have decided not to offer a tricks class after those which are currently included in our published schedules.
We’re all volunteers who are just trying to raise money for charity – Heart of England Dog Shows is a hobby for us – we’re trying to enjoy ourselves and are certainly not putting ourselves out there to be ranted at.
And so, instead of tricks, we’re very extremely pleased to be able to announce the return of ‘The Dog with the Waggiest Tail’ – the absence of which has been (very vocally – yes you Angela!!!) lamented by several of our regular participants!
Schedules for several of our summer shows have recently been published, and, those that contain a tricks class will continue to do so; but those that haven’t yet been published, will contain a ‘waggiest tail’ class instead.
We hope you will all understand and welcome the change.

17/02/13 - Thank you to everybody who supported us today. We hope you all enjoyed the show. The really good news is that we raised a grand total of £936 - which means our three charities, Daventry Community Centre, Leafy Shade Rescue & the Protection of Unwanted Puppies Society (PUPS) will each receive a cheque for £312. We couldn't do any of this without you and your lovely dogs - so thank you all so much for coming to the show and joining in!

15/02/13 - Just a couple of days now until our next Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre - here is a link to the schedule - looking forward to seeing you all!

10/02/13 - Just one week to go now, until our Kennel Club licensed Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre, on Sunday, 17th February 2013.  And we have an exciting annoucement to make.  Justina Bendelow, of Grand Rosettes, has created a special Heart of England rosette which can be purchased at the show (see photo).  Each rosette will cost £2.50.  We are keeping these items special, by restricting the Heart of England Dog Shows centres to these rosettes, our Champion of Champions event and future 'Best ins' (to be launched at our Summer shows).

03/02/13 - Just two weeks until our next Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre, on Sunday, 17th February 2013.  Here is a link to the schedule.  And, this time, our theme is 'The Oscars & Hollywood'.  Whilst we won't be presenting any Oscars, our judge will have several Golden Envelops to give away, which will entitle the recipients to enter our Champion of Champions Event on Sunday, 21st April 2013!

31/01/13 - Not only did Bill & Marie do a fantastic job with judging, the raffle and name the dog etc at Sunday's show, they also donated the wonderful trophies. In addition to the ones received by our overall winners, they prepared a special one for me and Brian - see the photo. This now has pride of place in our display area!  Can you spot the Pointer?  He looks like Paddy!!

29/01/13 - Here is a photo of Jodie Martin's whippet, Indi, with her rosettes, Golden Envelop and trophy, after winning Pedigree Best in Show at our CDS on Sunday!

28/01/13 - Fantastic show yesterday at Daventry Community Centre!  Thank you to everybody who supported us - we raised a grand total of £870!  The pictures are now here, and yesterday's qualifiers for our Champion of Champions Event on 21st April 2013 have been posted here!  The next show in this series is on Sunday, 17th February 2013 - see here for the schedule.

26/01/13 - Well last night's forecast heavy snow DIDN'T HAPPEN!!  And so we're all systems go for tomorrow's show (Sunday, 27th January 2013) at Daventry Community Centre!!

24/01/13 - We made the local paper again this week!!!  Looking forward to our show on Sunday!

23/01/13 - We're delighted to be able to announce that there will be trophies for the Pedigree Best in Show, Reserve Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show, and the Novelty Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show winners at our next show on Sunday, 27th January 2013 at Daventry Community Centre.  These are in addition to the special rosettes, golden envelops containing invitations to our Champions Event on 21st April 2013 also at Daventry Community Centre, and goody bags sponsored by   Thank you to Marie & Bill Botten (our judge on Sunday) for their generosity - they have generously sourced and sponsored these wonderful trophies. Here is a picture:

19/01/13 - Just over a week to go until our next Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre on 27th January 2013!

17/01/13 - Our next event will be at Daventry Community Centre on 27th January 2013.  Our local paper, the Daventry Express, decided to feature us again this week!

17/01/13 - Our wonderful rosette supplier, Justina Bendelow of Grand Rosettes, has just let us have an example of her latest creation.  It's a rosette with the Heart of England Dog Shows logo in the centre.  Winners at our Champions Event at Daventry Community Centre on 21st April 2013 will receive similar rosettes to this one.  This one will be on display at our next show on 27th January 2013.

15/01/13 - It's brilliant when we get details on what the funds we've raised have made possible.  Here is an account of Bertie's fortunes supplied by Susie Marston - he was the African Grey Parrot who was the immediate beneficiary at Leafy Shade Rescue, following our Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre on 30th December 2012 - if you have time please do read to the end - there is a happy outcome - and pictures!

Hello Heart of England Dog Shows!

This is the story of Bertie, a very cheeky African Grey parrot who came into our care at Leafy Shade Rescue on New Year’s Eve 2012.  It was not what you could call a good start to 2013 for Bertie, his owner had died during the holiday period meaning Bertie and his canine friend had been alone for a few days fending for themselves without human interaction. When wHello e went to pick him up he did look a tatty old thing!  Sitting on a dirty rope, peering out of his cage and not making too much noise;  just the occasional whistle.  As it was up to the local Police Officers to find the owner’s next of kin, we asked them to find out whether they would want to keep Bertie.  The Police were fantastic; within two hours they contacted Bertie’s new foster mum to say the next of kin wished to relinquish him into Leafy Shade Rescue’s care.

During the journey to his foster mum’s, Bertie was being crafty and lured us into a false sense of security with his occasional gentle whistle. Once his cage had been given a spring clean and he was placed inside, the true side of Bertie was heard.  He whistled, meowed, barked and talked nonstop for the next four hours.

On the second day of being in rescue, Bertie looked so plucked and puffy so we took him to the vet.  Apart from a good check-up, we also wanted a metal ring removed and to have him micro-chipped. He was diagnosed with suffering from over preening; we later found this started when his owner had to re-home his other parrot due to his increasing health issues and not being able to tame the Green Amazon. Bertie was also diagnosed with suffering from sinusitis caused by an unbalanced diet. With a lot of input, a high fresh fruit and veg diet, and lots of toys and branches, within 6 months he should be back on his feet.

Day three; off to the warehouse to re-decorate Bertie’s cage.  Thanks to the wonderful donation from Heart of England Dog Shows we could afford to lavish a bit more than normal on Bertie.  We were not being careless with the donation; please believe us when we say he really needed the equipment. We purchased branches, calcium sticks, some amusing toys and food - both seeds and pellets. You would be forgiven if you thought he would be instantly grateful but one of the many strange things about parrots is that when you try to introduce something new to their cage they don’t like it.  If it is not introduced to them before being placed into their cage they can and will ignore the new item. Bertie’s foster mum sat with him on her shoulder whilst she played with the toys and branches, after a while curiosity took the better of him, he wanted to play too!

Each day Bertie progressed wonderfully in his courage of being outside the cage, he no longer quakes; he now demands to be allowed out.  As he has pulled out his flight feathers and cannot fly at the moment, he has even taken to stylishly falling to the ground.  Bertie’s foster mum is sure this is just to torment the dogs.  She has not decided whether Bertie is very brave, plain daft or has a death wish as she has a full German Shepherd, a cross German Shepherd and a Golden Retriever.  He does not like having to go back in his cage now but needs must.  The foster mum does not trust either Bertie or the dogs not to misbehave when her back is turned.

Well Bertie had been in Rescue only 10 days when the daughter of Bertie’s owner called to say she had been bequeathed Bertie in her fathers will.  The good news is he would be getting a Black Headed Cacique to play with and the person he was going to live with was in most of the day to keep them company.  We all feel sad and happy Bertie is leaving us, sad to see him go, but glad he is going to people he knows and he is gaining a feathered friend!

12/01/13 - Just two weeks until our next indoor Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre, on 27th January 2013, and the next chance to qualify for our Champions Event on 21st April 2013.  It's circus themed - so we're hoping for some imaginative fancy dress entries!  Here is the schedule and here is a picture of the 'Best in' rosettes:

09/01/13 - We have a change of judge for our Spring-themed Companion Dog Show on 17th March 2013 at Daventry Community Centre.  Our judge is new Derek Collins (Collholme).  Here is a revised schedule.

08/01/13 - Look at these photos!  Lovely shots of Cindy, who won Best Crossbreed in Show at our event on Sunday, 30th December 2012 at Daventry Community Centre.  Cindy seems very pleased with her golden envelop which contains her invitation to the Champion of Champions event on 21st April 2013!

04/01/13 - Well Paddy went for his booster injections today and our vets (Sarah!) very kindly offered to sponsor the photo competition at our next show!  Thank you, Daventry Veterinary Clinic!

04/01/13 - After Sunday's show we thought we could do with some more of that non-slip floor covering, and so we ordered two more strips!  It all arrived today, which means for our next indoor shows we will be able to make a big rectangle (11m x 8m) with a diagonal (12m) across the middle.  We're also going to dispense with the cones and rope; we think now we have more non-slip floor covering that should be sufficient!

01/01/13 - Just finished unpacking the car, and we found another box containing a further £150. We'd forgotten we'd put the box in the car for safety. So, that means, the grand total raised at Sunday's show is £900, which means each of our three charities will receive £300. Thank you to everybody who came to the show for your support - it was you and your lovely dogs that made this possible.

01/01/13 - Sunday's Best Crossbreed in Show winner Cindy has a new friend - Cindy's owner Jackie won the 'Name the Dog Competition'!  Here is a picture of them both relaxing after their exertions at the show!

31/12/12 - Thank you to everybody who came to our Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre yesterday.  We hope you all enjoyed yourselves - we certainly did!  We raised £750 in total, which means that Daventry Community Centre, Leafy Shade Rescue and the Protection of Unwanted Puppies Society (PUPS) will each receive £250.

The first qualifiers for our Champions Event on 21st April 2013 were decided at yesterday's show - see here to find out who they are, and, see here for details of our next four shows; they're all at Daventry Community Centre and all include classes which will qualify the winners to participate in the Champions Event.

Here are the photos from the show!

29/12/12 - Well tomorrow's dog show was featured in the Daventry Express again this week! That's two weeks running! Not long now!

28/12/12 - Just a couple of days to go until our Companion Dog Show on Sunday, 30th December!

24/12/12 - It's Christmas Eve and so here is a sneak preview of the goodie bag, special rosette and invitation to our Champion of Champions Event on 21st April that the Best in Show winner will receive at our Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre on Sunday, 30th December 2012!

22/12/12 - I've added a new page to the website to record the qualifiers for our Champions Event.  It's currently waiting for the first names to be added following our Companion Dog Show at Daventry Community Centre on Sunday, 30th December 2012!  See our Dog show dates & schedules page for details of all of our forthcoming shows!

21/12/12 - Brian was interviewed on BBC Radio Northampton on Wednesday about our dog shows!  And, this article appeared in the Daventry Express yesterday:

25/11/12 - Well, the rosettes have arrived for our first two indoor Companion Dog Shows at Daventry Community Centre and they are totally gorgeous and BRILLIANT!  Thank you so much to Justina Bendelow at www.grandrosettes.co.uk for doing such an excellent job - here is a photo of the 'Best Ins' for the first show - there are quite a few as you can see!

21/10/12 - Whilst sorting out the photos from some older shows, so that they're more accessible for people to see, I found some that have never been published before, including two whole shows (Daventry, November 2010 and Kelmarsh, August 2011).  Check out our Pictures from our shows page!

20/10/12 - The Kennel Club Licenses and Insurance Certificates have arrived for all five of our indoor Companion Dog Shows (running between 30th December 2012 and 21st April 2013), and I've been busy getting the various signs, ring numbers, CDC documentation etc ready for the shows.  See here for details.  Should be exciting!

20/10/12 - Just to clarify, our indoor CDS at Daventry Community Centre on 17th February 2013 is Oscars/Hollywood themed (I had a few questions regarding what exactly Oscars meant - I picked this theme as the Oscars Ceremony in Hollywood occurs in February, and I thought we could all use a bit of glitz and glamour at that time of year!)  I've updated the schedule to reflect this.

20/10/12 - I've restructured the Pictures from our shows page, so that each album can be accessed individually.  Hopefully this will mean that those who aren't registered with Facebook will be able to see the photos.

14/10/12 - We (Brian & Sue) had a great time judging at the Prospectors Fun Dog Show at Cannock, Staffordshire today, and Chris stewarded for us!  The weather was fantastic - clear blue skies and lots of sunshine.  There were lots of lovely dogs and people - the pictures are on our Facebook page.

05/10/12 - All of our indoor Companion Dog Shows, plus the Champion of Champions event on 21st April 2013 are taking place at Daventry Community Centre, and so I've put a page together which describes the facilities at the Centre, including parking arrangements.  Have a look here.

25/09/12 – Heart of England Dog Shows are very pleased to announce that we’ve secured sponsorship from Butcher’s Pet Care for all five of our indoor Companion Dog Shows and our Champions Event, which will occur between December 2012 and April 2013, at Daventry Community Centre in Northamptonshire. Butcher’s Pet Care have generously offered to supply prizes in the form of dog food items for all class and ‘Best in’ winners, and also our Champions’ trophies! Thank you very much Butcher’s!

23/09/12 - Brian & Sue are judging at the Prospectors' Canine Training Group's Fun Dog Show on 14th October 2012 in Cannock, Staffordshire.  The schedule is now available and can be found here!

23/09/12 - A Most Noble Dog, Bosun.  At some of our shows we have a 'Most Noble Dog' class, and we're often asked 'what it's all about'.  Have a look at this page to find out!

23/09/12 - If you've been to one of the indoor shows we've organised at Daventry Community Centre, Northamptonshire over the past few years, you'll probably recall the hygenic, non-slip floor covering we used.  Although we no longer have access to that particular floor covering, we have just taken delivery of a brand new set, made of the same material.  This means we will be able to make a non-slip triangle within the ring, so that exhibitors can stand and move their dogs safely at our 2012/13 indoor Companion Dog Shows.

19/09/12 - Following on from our recent announcement regarding the five indoor Kennel Club licensed Companion Dog Shows that we will be running between December 2012 and April 2013 at Daventry Community Centre, we would like to announce the first Heart of England Dog Shows 'Champion of Champions' event.

At each of our five indoor Companion Dog Shows, we will be inviting all 'Best' and 'Reserve' winners to participate in our Champions event, which will occur after the Companion Dog Show on 21st April 2013 at Daventry Community Centre (the schedule for this particular CDS will have fewer classes to accommodate the Champions event, but will include all classes that qualify).

We have created a brand new page on this website which is dedicated to the Champions Event - please check it out for more information.

We will be posting more details as they become available, and will be seeking sponsorship for rosettes, trophies and prizes, so if anybody would like to get involved in this way, or indeed, if anybody has any questions or queries, please do contact us via our Facebook page, e-mail address admin@heartofenglanddogshows.co.uk or telephone Brian on 07577 463560.

We hope to see lots of our supporters at our indoor shows, and at the Champion of Champions event!

17/09/12 - Heart of England Dog Shows would like to announce a series of five Kennel Club licensed Companion Dog Shows, to be held at Daventry Community Centre, Ashby Road, Daventry, Northamptonshire, NN11 0QE, all with different themes, on the following dates:

Sunday, 30th December 2012 - Pantomime Theme

Sunday, 27th January 2013 - Circus Theme

Sunday, 17th February 2013 - Oscars/Hollywood Theme

Sunday, 17th March 2013 - Spring Theme

Sunday, 21st April 2013 - Super Heroes Theme

The details are to be confirmed, but there will basically be four Pedigree classes followed by a 'beaten dog rule applies' BIS class; then, a selection of Novelties which will include an appropriately themed fancy dress class and also trick, followed by an 'all 1st places' BNIS class.  There will be several special rosettes in addition to the usual 'Best Ins'.  We will post more details including full schedules as they become available.

Shortly, we will also be in a position to announce another initiative, which will run through all five shows and culminate in a special event at the last one, on Sunday, 21st April 2013 (the CDS schedule for this show will be shorter, to accomodate the special event, but there will be a Super Heroes themed fancy dress class in the Novelty section).  Watch this space!

15/09/12 - Well I shared my judging duties today at Good Hope with Sue Moore, MD of Good Hope Hospital, and the Lord and Lady Mayor and Mayoress of Birmingham - yes I was in very illustrious company!  We had a great day - fantastic people, dogs, weather and atmosphere.  We were able to make a great big ring on the car park - it was absolutely brilliant!  Thank you so much everybody for supporting us today.  We hope to see you all at our indoor events starting in December 2012.  We will be posting details very soon.  For now, here is a link to the photos from today:

We went up to Harpole in Northamptonshire yesterday to get the ring ready for today's (Sunday, 9th September 2012) fun dog show.  There is a big, flat ring with (now!) very short grass.  The details are here, and I thought I'd share a couple of photos!

07/09/12 - A couple of changes relating to our Fun Dog Show at Harpole Scarecrow Festival in Northamptonshire, this Sunday, 9th September 2012:

Disabled parking (Blue Badge) is now at the Bowls Club next to the ring.

The dog show will now be on the grass not the car park, as we've discovered there's enough room for a large ring on the grass.

01/09/12 - The schedule for our fun dog show at Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield on 15th September 2012 is here!

01/09/12 - Here is a picture of the Special Rosettes which will be awarded at our Fun Dog Show at Harpole Scarecrow Festival, in Northamptonshire on Sunday, 9th September 2012. See here for a schedule.

15/08/12 - Advance notice of a new dog show - at Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield, Warks, on Saturday, 15th September 2012.  The dog show is in conjunction with Good Hope's first fete.  We will post a schedule and more details as things are finalised.  At this stage we can say that parking will be near the ring (the show will be on the carpark - so it's a hard surface not grass), loos are nearby and refreshments will be available.  There will also be stalls and a bouncy castle for the energetic!  Watch this space for more information.....

19/08/12 - Great day today at the Wolves & Woofers event in Bedfordshire.  Not a Heart of England Dog Shows event, but Brian & Sue had a brilliant time judging the pedigrees & novelties in the Companion Dog Show.  The Red Arrows flying over the event and doing their 'red, white and blue' smoke trail right above the ring was superb!  Just checked their website and the Red Arrows were booked to do a display at Sywell in Northamptonshire, so they must have decided to give Wolves & Woofers a treat on their way home - thank you guys!  The weather was lovely - here are a few photos:

18/08/12 - We've added a testimonials page.

12/08/12 - Great show today in Markfield, Leicestershire, in conjunction with the National GSD Club.  There are a few photos on Facebook, and more will be posted on the NGSD Club's website - www.thenationalgsdclub.com  The good news is that the NGSD Club have asked us to do a repeat performance next year - they've already booked the same venue (Tomlinson's Showground in Markfield, Leicestershire - one of the very best locations for a dog show I've come across - plenty of flat short grass, and superb wet-weather cover should it be required (it wasn't today - the sun shone!)

Here is a link to the photos we took today:

11/08/12 - Absolutely mega fantasic show today at Rockingham.  Very hard work, but well worth it to see the happy faces around the ring.  The pictures are up - on our Facebook Page:

10/08/12 - Just got back from setting up the rings at the KC's IAF CDS at Rockingham ready for tomorrow's show. It's a lovely location, and we've made big rings - there is lot of space. And the really good news is that there is RINGSIDE PARKING!! If you look at the first photo with me in it (below), that will be approximately where the nearest parking will be.

30/07/12 - Our next event is the Companion Dog Show at Napton, Warwickshire, CV47 8LT, held in conjunction with the Finnish Lapphund Club of Great Britain, on Saturday, 4th August 2012.  Heart of England Dog Shows are sponsoring the Best Novelty rosettes, and there are seven of them:  Best Novelty in Show, Reserve, Puppy, Veteran, Rescue, Crossbreed & Fancy Dress.  Here is a picture - they're all red, white and blue to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics.  Here is a link to the schedule.

01/07/12 - The schedule for our fun dog show at Harpole Scarecrow Festival on Sunday, 9th September 2012 is now ready and can be viewed/downloaded here.  Please note that there is no ringside parking at this show - parking is in the playing field across the ring from the venue, approximately 100 metres away.  Also, there is a £2 entry fee to the Scarecrow Festival, which adult participants will need to pay (children are free).  To balance this we've negotiated two free classes in the dog show.

01/07/12 - So that we don't get into trouble with the copyright police, I've done a new version of the schedule for our show at Napton, on 4th August 2012, which we're organising in conjunction with the Finnish Lapphund Club of Great Britain.  Everything is exactly the same, except I've removed the Olympic rings - we're not supposed to use them it seems.  Have a look here

01/07/08 - We're frequently asked at Companion shows 'Which Kennel Club Group is my pedigree dog in?', so, we've prepared a document which details how the Kennel Club have categorised the various pedigree breeds into 'groups' - these are Gundog, Hound, Pastoral, Terrier, Toy, Utility & Working.  See our General show information page for more information, and our comprehensive KC Breed Group Listings document.

01/07/12 - It now looks as if we will be doing a fun dog show at the Harpole Scarecrow Festival - the schedule isn't quite ready, but I'm hoping to be able to publish it very soon - monitor our Dog show dates & schedules page for information.  One thing to note though - there won't be ring side parking at this show.  We are advised that parking will be about 100 metres away from the venue - we'll update you all as soon as we have more information.

01/07/12 - News re our Fun Dog Show at Court Lane Allotments, Erdington, Birmingham on 22nd July - we are adding five extra classes, before 'The dog that hasn't won a 1st place today'.  These classes will be Brace (any combination - matching or not), Open Dog, Open Bitch (any dogs/bitches can enter these classes - it doesn't matter if you're a pedigree or crossbreed, and age is irrelevant), Most Outstanding Ears and Friendliest Dog.

28/06/12 - We have a brand new show - a CDS in Napton, Warwickshire on Saturday, 4th August.  Have a look at our Dog show dates & schedules page for details

18/06/12 - Brian & Sue judged at the Perfect Pooches CDS at Great Linford, Milton Keynes on 17th June 2012.  We really enjoyed ourselves and it was great to see such a lot of lovely dogs present.  Here is a picture (left to right) of the Pedigree RBIS (a Dogue de Bordeaux), BIS (a Wire-haired Vizsla) and BPIS (a Shih Tzu) with Brian their judge.  All the dogs were great and we hope they and their handlers had as good a time as we did!
